Beauty Tips
by Kriss Colville

Tip #1 - eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Tip #2 – drink six-eight glasses of water each day.
Tip #3 – cut down on sweets, or don’t eat them at all.
Tip #4 – wear sunscreen on hot days.
Tip #5 – wash face at least twice a day, and apply a good moisturizer.
Tip #6 – for a sheer look; dampen your sponge first before applying foundation.
Tip #7 – apply a light coat of mascara, eye shadow, and lipstick.
Tip # 8 – give yourself a Baby Shampoo Bubble Bath:
Pour one or two capfuls of baby shampoo into your bath while water is running. Splash your hand around in the shampoo to make more bubbles while water is still running. Any product recommended for babies will also be good for your skin.

Eyebrows

Tip #1 – Eyebrow color: use eyebrow pencil, or brush lighter than your natural color to give it a more natural look.
Tip #2 – Eyebrow pluck: if you are a young girl, never pluck your eyebrows until you are older. If you are a teen, and you think your eyebrows are too thick, pluck only the bottom of the eyebrow. Don’t start plucking away at the top. First of all—it hurts, but before you realize it, you will have plucked out most of your eyebrows, and sad to say—they won’t grow back.
Tip #3 – if your eyes are close-set, you’ll need to remove the hair from the inner brow (growing in the direction of the nose).

Eyeliner

Tip #1 – eyeliner: apply a thin line from inner eyelid to the tip in colors that look good on you. Did you know that white eyeliner makes your eyes look larger?
Tip #2 – Apply: Eyeliner should be applied close to the base of the eyelashes. Whether you use liquid liner or pencil, practice until you achieve the line you want. A fine line looks better.
Tip #3 – Line eyes: use pencil liners above top lashes, and under lower lashes. Liquid liners should only be used on the top lid.

Eyeshadow

Tip #1 – colors: if you wear eyeshadow, make sure you wear light colors. You don’t want to walk around with bright pink, or blue packed on so heavy you look like a clown. Kids at school might make fun of you, and give you a silly nickname.
Wear a pale tan, brown, or grey. There are even pale pinks, blues, and violets, and many other colors in stores. You’ll look good in a pale color, and your eyes will look brighter and bigger.
If you use eyeshadow below the eyebrow, use a light color. If you want, put a darker color on the eyelid. If you put a dark color under your eyebrow, it will make you look like a clown.

Face

Tip #1 – acne & stress: – emotional upset, or stress can cause a break out, or make your acne worse. Try to avoid stressful situations if you have acne. Talk about your problems with parents, friends, or professional help.
Tip #2 – acne wash: wash your face with a special cleanser for acne. You may buy it at your drugstore, or your doctor may have to prescribe a certain lotion for your. The lotion, or cream will usually contain sulfur, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide.
This will help to degrease, and degerm your skin. If you leave acne untreated, it may result in not only psychological distress, but also leave facial scarring. Consult your doctor for treatment.
Tip #3 – facial: Almond Oatmeal & Honey Facial
¼ cup almonds
¼ cup oatmeal
½ teaspoon honey
**use a blender to grind almonds and oatmeal until they are smooth like sand. Place the mixture in a small container, and add honey. Keep it stored at room temperature.
When ready to use, place about one tablespoon of the mixture in your hand, and add about two drops of water to make a smooth blend. Massage gently onto your face, and rinse well. This combination can be put on as is, or can be heated up in the microwave for about ten seconds before use.
Tip #4 – moisturizer: your skin loses natural moisture through the pores on a daily basis. This moisture must be replaced to prevent dry skin—and even wrinkles. Start early in life giving your skin plenty of moisture to prevent wrinkles in later years.
There are plenty of good moisturizers on the market. Pick out one that is light, and will be absorbed by the skin quickly. Remember protection from the sun is important at any age, and most skin creams now include good protection.
Tip #5 – pimples: – try to keep your hands off your face, and do not pick at the pimples. If you do, it will take longer to heal.
Tip #6 – wash: give your face a thorough cleansing each morning and evening. Wash your face with a product designed for you’re your skin type. It is important to wash twice a day to prevent pimples, clogged pores, and acne.
1) normal to dry skin: if your skin is normal to dry, use a mild soap, or milky cleanser. After rinsing the face well, splash with cold water to tone the skin, or you can buy a “toner”. Sprinkle toner on a cotton pad, and pat over face.
2) oily skin: if you have oily skin it will benefit from an “astringent.” Apply to face with a cotton pad. This will remove surplus skin cleanser, and tighten the pores in your face. Next, apply a good moisturizer.

Lipstick

Tip #1 – lipstick: choose a lipstick color that is a shade darker than your natural lips. After applying lipstick, try adding some lip-gloss over it to give for a nice shiny look.
Tip #2 – lipstick & powder: to make your lipstick work better, powder the lips lightly first.

Make-up (general)

Tip #1 – apply make-up: make sure your face is freshly washed and moisturized, then apply make-up with a water moistened cosmetic sponge. You may prefer liquid make-up, or pressed powered make-up with a dry pad. Apply make-up thinly over your face and neck, creating a natural look. Remember, blemishes should not be covered with a thick layer of make-up. Instead cover them with a cover stick.
1. make sure your face is clean.
2. eyebrows are plucked, and neat looking.
3. add foundation (light colors, not too dark).
4. add eyeliner in light colors.
5. add mascara (brown, black, or light colors).
6. add blusher (pale peaches and pinks).
7. add lipstick, or lip-gloss.
Tip #2 – blusher: apply blusher sparingly on your cheekbones starting under the eye, and smooth it up into the hairline. Form a triangle by bringing the blusher down the hairline, and back to the original point. Do not bring the blusher lower than your nose. Smooth the color lightly into your face.
Use soft colors in pink and peach. Brush up and out from the center of your cheek with light strokes.
Tip #3 – concealer: use concealer under your eyes on problem spots such as dark circles under the eyes. You can even add a little concealer on a blemish. Finish with powder foundation.
Tip #4 – foundation: if you have oily skin as many young girls do, you’ll want to use powder foundation instead of liquid. If your skin is dry, then you can use liquid foundation. If you use the liquid apply a light coat of powder over it.
Tip #5 – learn about make-up: you will need to experiment with different types of make-up until you find the right one for your skin type. You can have lots of fun learning how to apply make-up. Remember that over painting your face will not only make you look silly, but will cause unnecessary attention to yourself.
Tip #6 – make-up fads: beware of make-up fads that appear to look good on models in magazines, or on TV. They will look totally different on you. Always buy the right make-up that suits your skin tone.
Tip #7 – skin type: test to see if your skin is what’s called the “warm type.” Here’s how:

Skin tone:
Fair to medium
Golden brown

Hair:
Golden brown
Red
Auburn
Strawberry blond

Eyes:
Hazel
Deep brown
Brown

If you are the warm type, Cover Girl offers makeup marked “warm,” so you’ll know which type to pick out.

Nails

Tip #1 – cuticle: buy a good cuticle remover that you apply just like nail polish. You leave it on for ten minutes, push back the cuticle, and then wash it off. It’s easy to do, and your nails will look neat and healthy.
Tip #2 – nail biting: biting your nails is a terrible habit. Nail biters usually are displaying inner fears. When you show your chewed up nails, it tells people you are lacking self-assurance—big time! When your nails fly up to your mouth to be gnawed on, catch yourself, and put them back down.
Trim them as well as you can, and apply some clear polish. They will look so good you won’t want to mess them up by chewing on them. If this doesn’t work, you may have to try a special polish you paint on your nails, and it will taste so awful you won’t be able to chew them up. It’s just a silly habit—stop it!
Tip #3 –nail polish-bright colors: girls have such an advantage today when it comes to nail polish. There are so many colors to choose from, and you can even add stickers, or paint designs on your nails. Where bright colors on young girl’s nails were once forbidden, they are now accepted.
So, go ahead—and have fun doing your own nail art. You can buy nail kits with everything inside to make your nails as decorative as you want. Remember too much nail polish remover is not healthy for your nails. Try polishing them once a week, instead of every few days.
Tip #4 – fake nails: If you are old enough to wear fake nails, you might want to consider this: Many teenage girls claim that their real nails feel much better, and also say it hurts when the fake nails are removed. Some girls say that if you soak them first in warm soapy water it doesn’t hurt to remove them. If you do try them remember that certain foods and drinks can stain them.
Tip #5 – nail polish remover: If you like to keep your nails polished, remember that nail polish remover has something in it called, acetone, which dries your nails out. This can cause your nails to crack, and look unattractive. Although some claim to be non-acetone using it too often is unhealthy for the nails.
When removing nail polish, if the polish is on, or inside your cuticles use a q-tip to remove the polish gently. Also, when removing instead of using the old fashioned way of a cotton swab and a bottle of nail polish remover, you can use the jar with a large sponge inside. Insert your nail, and twist until the polish comes off. It’s much easier this way. But more of your finger is exposed to the polish remover. I’m not sure how that will affect the skin on the finger tips later on.
Tip #6 – top coat: after polishing your nails, apply a clear nail polish, or topcoat for protection. This will prevent nails from chipping, and give them a shiny new look.
